Triple Education approach for secondary education in remote areas
In many remote areas, if education even exists, it’s only primary education. This phenomenon calls for a new approach towards education that is sustainable, effective and affordable, we call this Triple Education.
Efforts to develop secondary education need to address smartly the reasons why it is not present yet
After years of conceptual preparatory thinking and involvement in many educational improvement and innovation projects in secondary and vocational education, EduXprss has now developed a new prototype for remote areas where secondary education at present is absent. In most of such areas, a small percentage can afford to go to a boarding school not to far away, let their children go to family in a city, but most students from 14 year on face a life without further education in communities that face severe conditions for lifelihood, economic and social prosperity. But whatever approach you use, it has to address the main reasons why secondary education is not available:
1. Present secondary education is based upon the assumption that each subject requires a high educated specialised techer in those different subjects. But in villages of 600 to 2.000 inhabitants, such a model of operation has no chance to survive financially, if even teachers would be willing.
2. An model of operation and curriculum design that stimulates local inhabitants to support school.
3. A model of operation that can financially survive, that preferently is even cheaper then present models of establishment and operation of schools, without getting the risk of a second rank facility.
4. Provides a chance on formal recognition of qualifications, meaningful for work, life and learning in order to receive sustainable governmental funding after initial pilot successes has proven its right on existence.
Such a challenging situation request for challenging solutions.
Another vision secondary education for remote areas is needed
We call our approach Triple Education, because it can’t be reached with just doubling our efforts and rewarding for the work of teachers and students. We just can’t ask such a thing and it won’t work.
A more smart approach is needed, that suits basic subject learning in combination with projectlearning (to which less teacher guidance is needed), community involvement and involvement of local craftsmen and businessman in vocational and personal development. In order to realize an educational solution that suits the interests and capacities of the learners, the teachers and the local community, to avoid alienation and foster social, moral and economic community development.
